Foreman – Cable Laying

Job Profile

Site and Civil Works

• Supervise excavation, trenching, earthworks, trial pits, safe excavation arrangements, trench bedding, backfilling, and compaction.
• Oversee reinstatement of roads, footpaths, interlock, kerbstones, and asphalt; manage excavated materials and construction waste.
• Supervise cable trenches, duct banks, chambers, manholes, foundations, formwork, reinforcement, concrete, and related civil structures.
• Coordinate with surveyors and electrical teams; verify levels, dimensions, gradients, alignment, and setting-out.

Electrical Works

• Supervise electrical ducts, cable routes, LV/HV cables, earthing systems, and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Coordinate cable laying, pulling, dressing, termination, jointing, testing, inspections, commissioning, and rectification as applicable.
• Check cable handling, storage, route clearances, bends, separation, and installation against approved requirements.
• Ensure electrical work is ready for QA/QC or client inspection.

Manpower and Drawings

• Allocate and supervise electricians, civil workers, helpers, operators, and subcontractors; monitor productivity and daily targets.
• Report manpower shortages, brief workers on assigned activities, and support effective resource utilization.
• Read civil, electrical, utility, and as-built drawings; verify work locations and routes and report discrepancies.
• Prevent unauthorized deviations from approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.

HSE and Quality

• Enforce HSE procedures, Toolbox Talks, PPE use, barricading, warning signs, lighting, and safe access around excavations.
• Ensure safe practices for excavation, lifting, electrical work, and underground utilities; report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and service damage.
• Ensure required permits, NOCs, or clearances are obtained and stop work where conditions are unsafe or activity is unauthorized.
• Inspect workmanship, rectify defects and inspection comments, and ensure compliance with approved specifications and project requirements.

Role Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience in excavation, underground utilities, cable works, duct installation, backfilling, reinstatement, and electrical infrastructure.
• Ability to read and interpret civil, electrical, utility, and as-built drawings.
• Appropriate competent supervision is required for cable-laying work and work near transmission-network services.
