Role overview
Support Intelligent Transport Systems and Urban Traffic Control projects through installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks for traffic signals, CCTV, vehicle detection, and related infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic cables for traffic signal controllers, ANPR/CCTV, VMS, and other ITS devices.
- Use OTDR, power meters, and light sources to validate link performance across intersections and roadside cabinets.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber faults, minimizing system downtime.
- Coordinate with traffic signal engineers and control-room staff during integration and commissioning.
- Maintain fiber route maps, splicing records, and test reports to project standards.
- Follow local authority specifications, safety standards, and quality procedures.
- Support network upgrades, expansions, and temporary construction diversions.
- Assist integration of fiber-linked devices into UTC/SCOOT or ATMS platforms.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma or degree in electronics, telecommunications, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Two to three years of fiber-optics experience in traffic or ITS projects.
- Experience with CCTV, VMS, or radar detection systems.
- Valid driving license and willingness to perform site visits and fieldwork.
Skills
- Hands-on experience with OTDR, fusion splicers, light sources, and power meters.
- Understanding of roadside or urban traffic fiber network topology.
- Documentation and communication skills for coordination with contractors, consultants, and local authorities.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to on-site fiber faults.
Workplace
- Outdoor, in-person role involving site visits and fieldwork in Abu Dhabi.
