Design Engineer

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Prepare designs and calculations for bored piles, CFA piles, micropiles, and other piling systems.
• Design temporary retaining structures, including secant and contiguous pile walls, sheet piles, soldier pile walls, diaphragm walls, anchors, and struts.
• Perform geotechnical and structural analysis using design software.
• Interpret geotechnical investigation reports and develop foundation and retaining-wall solutions.
• Prepare technical drawings, design sketches, and reports for internal review and client submission.
• Ensure designs comply with Eurocodes, ACI and BS standards, and local authority regulations.
• Support project and site teams during construction, addressing design queries and modifications.
• Prepare tender designs and value-engineering proposals to optimize cost and performance.
• Conduct design risk assessments and assist with method statements.
• Attend technical meetings and site visits; coordinate design matters with consultants, clients, and subcontractors.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 10–15 years of design engineering experience in a piling, shoring, or geotechnical contracting company.
• Strong knowledge of piling systems, shoring methods, and temporary works design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant design software such as PLAXIS, WALLAP, Oasys, SAFE, or STAAD Pro.
• Good understanding of soil–structure interaction, ground behavior, and foundation design principles.
