The Commis chef works with the culinary leadership team and rotates through kitchen sections.
Prepares food and cooks under the direct supervision of sous chefs, contributing to appealing dishes for guests.
Responsibilities
- Follow recipes, presentation standards, and guest preferences; measure ingredients and portions accurately.
- Work across cold food, hot food, pastry, or butchery stations and learn culinary techniques.
- Handle ingredients and deliveries, maintain freshness and quality, and rotate stock.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation and follow food safety practices.
- Inspect facilities and equipment and report substandard conditions to senior staff or engineering.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to prepare and serve meals on time; follow senior chefs’ instructions and seek guidance.
- Engage guests positively, anticipate preferences, and protect confidential guest information.
Qualifications
- Proficient knife skills and basic cooking techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well under pressure.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new culinary skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to food quality and presentation.
- Culinary education or training from a recognized culinary school or apprenticeship program is a plus, but not required.
