Contribute to AI research and development for semiconductor innovation at imec Qatar in Doha.
Work with AI researchers, chip designers, and system architects on ASIC design flows, compute architectures, and SoC development.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the AI roadmap for semiconductor R&D activities.
- Develop AI-enhanced methods for semiconductor design and optimization with AI, compute architecture, and chip design experts.
- Identify use cases for AI-driven design flows, digital twins, and design automation.
- Develop virtual twins for experimentation, architecture exploration, and validation of AI-optimized hardware components.
- Prototype and evaluate AI methods for ASIC design, SoC architecture exploration, and hardware/software codesign.
- Use AI-assisted design tools; collaborate across disciplines and contribute to publications, reports, demonstrations, and proposals.
Required qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related STEM field.
- 3+ years of applied research or technology development involving AI, machine learning, or optimization.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of reinforcement learning, Bayesian optimization, graph neural networks, surrogate modeling, agentic AI, or design-space exploration.
- Strong Python programming; familiarity with modern ML frameworks and software engineering best practices.
- Experience developing proof-of-concepts and translating research ideas into prototypes, demonstrators, or deployable solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary R&D teams; strong communication and interest in AI and semiconductor collaboration.
Preferred qualifications
- Semiconductor design flows, EDA tools, ASIC development, SoC architecture exploration, or computer architecture research experience.
- Hardware/software codesign familiarity and experience applying AI to engineering, scientific computing, optimization, or design automation.
- Scientific publications, patents, or industrial research project experience.
- Knowledge of digital twins, simulation frameworks, or architecture modeling environments; mentoring experience is a plus.
