About the role

The SDET / Test Engineer will own test architecture and automation frameworks across client engagements.

The role combines technical testing, engineering rigor, system reliability, and AI-assisted testing.

The engineer will contribute production-quality application code when needed, not only test code.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers.
  • Partner with engineers during design and development to embed quality early in the software development lifecycle.
  • Build automated unit, integration, end-to-end, and regression pipelines that gate deployments.
  • Test performance bottlenecks, race conditions, and failure modes, including in systems with strict uptime or regulatory requirements.
  • Use AI tools to generate test scaffolding, analyze failures, identify coverage gaps, and speed up maintenance while applying human judgment.
  • Translate acceptance criteria into automated coverage with engineering, product, and advisory teams, and communicate quality status and risk.
  • Contribute application code where needed and understand the systems being tested.

Technical expertise

  • Strong hands-on experience with modern test automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar, and frameworks such as TestNG, JUnit, or Cucumber.
  • Solid coding ability in Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or similar; comfortable writing production-quality code.
  • Proven experience validating REST APIs, JSON payloads, and structured data across complex, multi-system workflows.
  • Practical experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar, and working with Git.
  • Ability to reason about concurrency, state management, and data integrity in complex backend systems.

Engineering and communication skills

  • Approach testing as an engineering discipline, designing for maintainability, scalability, and speed.
  • Show autonomy and proactively identify quality risks.
  • Clearly explain technical risk and quality trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

Experience in high-reliability or high-stakes domains such as e-commerce or financial services.

Cloud experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure and Docker containerisation for test environment management.

Experience with performance/load testing tools such as JMeter or k6 and observability tooling.

Exposure to AI-assisted test generation or self-healing test frameworks.

Background contributing production code, including full-stack or backend development.

Year-one success milestones

Within the first 90 days, understand the stack and client delivery model and deliver an automation framework improvement or CI/CD gate.

Within six months, become a trusted quality authority on the project team, with automation coverage that catches real issues before production.

Within one year, improve deployment confidence and speed through reusable frameworks and AI-accelerated workflows across multiple client engagements.
