The Manager Trainee learns the duties and skills required for a Store Manager role.
Primary areas include customer experience, team development, sales, inventory, profit management, expense control, and shrink reduction.
Store and team operations
- Learn to recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and retain team members; create a welcoming and supportive store environment.
- Schedule and organize daily work, lead customer service, communicate company policies, and help improve store processes.
- Resolve team member and customer concerns and learn to develop employees for advancement.
- Promote a safe and productive workplace and manage merchandise flow, in-stock levels, inventory controls, price changes, and merchandise presentation.
- Learn sales and profit management, expense control, forecasting, budgeting, payroll analysis, and auditing.
- Train on paperwork including invoices, schedules, product orders and returns, purchase order reports, evaluations, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate sales events, support district operations and community involvement, and work with buyers and distribution partners to solve inventory issues.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma is listed; a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science or a business-related field is preferred. Suitable combinations of education and experience are considered.
- Retail experience and/or farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge is strongly preferred; supervisory experience is preferred.
- A valid driver's license is required if driving for company business.
- Able to process merchandise through systems and a POS register, complete documentation, access store areas, and operate store equipment.
