Role details

Senior technical product role focused on networking, converters, and console-server products.

Reports to the VP of Products; stated travel is 20%.

Listed locations are Plano, Texas; Lawrence, Pennsylvania; India, preferred for hardware-lab access; or remote in the US.

Product strategy and vendor leadership

  • Evaluate the networking, converter, and console-server portfolio; rationalize SKUs, optimize BOMs and margins, and identify products to consolidate, sunset, or scale.
  • Act as technical interface to global manufacturing partners, influence roadmaps, negotiate technical SLAs, and drive root-cause analysis and supplier quality corrections.
  • Own hardware and firmware validation gates, NPI testing, regulatory verification, and automated test frameworks.
  • Handle complex field failures as final technical escalation authority, including hands-on lab debugging and vendor corrective actions.

Compliance and lifecycle

  • Translate compliance mandates into hardware and firmware requirements and assess vendor BOMs and architectures to avoid invalidating standards such as FIPS, TAA, UL, and NERC CIP.
  • Manage the product lifecycle from NPI through end of life.
  • Develop technical documentation, training materials, troubleshooting guides, firmware test checklists, and compatibility matrices.
  • Support Sales and Product Marketing with technical content and serve as the networking subject-matter expert across the product organization.

Networking and hardware expertise

  • Layer 2/3 networking: VLANs, STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, QoS/CoS, static routing, OSPF, IGMP snooping, 802.1X, and ACLs.
  • Optical and copper interfaces include SFP/SFP+, RJ-45, single- and multimode fiber, wavelength specifications, PoE, and rate matching.
  • PoE engineering includes PSE/PD classification, power budgets, 802.3af/at, detection, backward compatibility, and downstream device profiling.
  • Industrial requirements include environmental hardening, wide temperature ranges, EMC/EMI immunity, redundant power, ring redundancy, and DIN-rail or panel mounting.
  • Console servers, secure out-of-band access, terminal emulation, serial-over-IP, and USB extension technology.
  • Security and integration technologies include TPM 2.0, FIPS 140-2/3, TAA, NERC CIP, TACACS+, RADIUS, Kerberos, VPNs, ZTP, REST APIs, SNMP, LLDP, and NTP.
  • Serial and signal technologies include RS-232/422/485, V.35, coax conversion, attenuation, impedance matching, Modbus ASCII/RTU, and serial-line conditioning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience with a proven record in hardware validation and network engineering.
  • Experience managing OEM/ODM relationships and holding external engineering teams accountable to strict quality and firmware standards.
  • CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent industrial networking certifications are highly preferred.
  • The supplied description ends mid-sentence after stating that certifications can substitute; the remainder is not available.
