Sr. Software Engineer – Sites & Services
Role Overview
This senior Individual Contributor (IC) role sits within the Box Tops for Education (BTFE) engineering team, responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend services and APIs that power the BTFE platform. The individual will personally design and develop robust, enterprise-grade solutions built on.NET Core, RESTful APIs, and a microservices architecture, following best practices, coding standards, and sound architectural principles — with no direct reports or formal people-management responsibility. With advanced hands-on expertise across the.NET Core, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL ecosystem, they will execute full lifecycle development — from technical planning and design to implementation, deployment, and ongoing optimization — within an Agile delivery model, working closely with peers, the Delivery Manager, and cross-functional stakeholders. The role also includes direct ownership of production stability, batch job orchestration via Tidal, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure reliability, scalability, and sustained technical excellence across all platforms.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical Execution & Delivery
Owning end-to-end design, development, and delivery of complex BTFE platform modules and features, following Agile/Scrum delivery practices
Applying coding, testing, and design standards for.NET Core, API, and microservices development to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance
Providing hands-on production support, including monitoring and troubleshooting of Tidal-scheduled batch jobs, incident response, and root cause analysis for critical issues
Actively participating in sprint planning, requirement gathering, scope definition, and technical planning alongside the Delivery Manager and team
Providing reliable technical estimates for assigned work and flagging effort/resourcing risks
Participating in code and design reviews to ensure technical consistency and best practices
Contributing to architectural discussions on microservices decomposition and API design, surfacing design gaps and proposing solutions
Performing performance tuning, query optimization (SQL Server/PostgreSQL), and system-level analysis on owned components
Continuous Learning & Collaboration
Staying current with emerging technologies and frameworks across the.NET and microservices ecosystem and applying them to own work
Sharing technical knowledge and informal guidance with peers through code reviews, pairing, and discussions
Contributing to internal initiatives such as architecture reviews and engineering talks
Collaborating effectively within the team and supporting a positive, Agile-aligned working culture
Technical Problem-Solving
Contributing to high-level estimations and technical plans for assigned features and modules
Designing and building complex, scalable, and secure technical solutions using.NET Core, API, and microservices
Acting as a subject-matter resource on BTFE's technical implementation when consulted by stakeholders
Contributing hands-on to technology direction and stack decisions within the team, including execution of the SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration
