Sr Software Dev Engineer III, RDS for Oracle

About the role

Database architecture and delivery

• Lead architecture and design of large-scale distributed database systems using RDS for Oracle in AWS cloud environments.
• Optimize performance for high availability and scalability and integrate Linux-based RDS for Oracle with AWS infrastructure.
• Design integrations between Oracle and AWS services such as EC2, VPC, and IAM.
• Lead agile development cycles to prototype, develop, and deploy database features while balancing delivery speed, quality, security, and scalability.

Customers and product strategy

• Serve as a technical lead for enterprise database services and address complex customer requirements.
• Collaborate with account managers and solution architects on customer database solutions.
• Gather customer requirements, provide technical consultations, support implementations, and translate needs into technical specifications and product roadmap items.
• Monitor competitor offerings and propose and implement features that support AWS database product strategy.

Performance, security, and mentorship

• Develop strategies, monitoring tools, troubleshooting tools, and automation for database performance and large-scale deployments.
• Integrate AI and ML technologies to improve database performance, security, and ease of use.
• Meet security and compliance requirements, including FedRAMP, GDPR, and HIPAA, and implement cloud database security practices.
• Mentor junior team members, conduct design reviews, and provide feedback on architecture, performance, and scalability.
• Create technical documentation for internal teams and customers, including best-practice guides and whitepapers.

Basic qualifications

• At least 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience and 5 years of programming experience in at least one language.
• At least 5 years leading design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or engineering team leader.
• Experience explaining complex technical concepts to business and technical audiences.
• Deep expertise in at least one of database systems, distributed systems, storage architecture, or systems programming.

Preferred qualifications

• Full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud offerings; operational excellence or continuous improvement experience.
• Oracle Database or other database experience, including NoSQL; the posting also cites analytical skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.
• Experience with open-source tools, cloud infrastructure, or managed services.

About AWS

Compensation

• The Vancouver, British Columbia base salary range is CAD $150,700–$251,700 annually.
• Total compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
