Oversee and manage plant operational activities during a shift, monitor performance, and provide technical support to achieve production targets efficiently and safely.
Shift and plant operations
- Supervise shift team activities and ensure targets, objectives, plans, procedures, and systems are followed.
- Monitor plant performance and provide engineering support for operational matters; oversee day-to-day plant activities and take corrective action for abnormalities or emergencies.
- Review work instructions, SOPs, and procedures and recommend improvements to the Operations Manager.
- Coordinate plant operations with other departments and work with Maintenance on commissioning, start-up, and other activities.
Safety and relationships
- Ensure HSSE and permit-to-work requirements are followed during shift work.
- Maintain relationships with internal departments and contractors, handle critical technical issues, and represent the plant in technical meetings.
- Monitor safety, security, and environmental compliance; report incidents and near misses and manage emergencies until relieved by higher authority.
Systems and improvement
- Administer SAP operations processes for planning, scheduling, breakdown reviews, maintenance notifications, work orders, and data integrity; keep system documents current.
- Adhere to policies and procedures and contribute to change initiatives and improvement projects.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Eight years’ experience in CCGT and power-generation plants, including two years in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of relevant plant equipment and water desalination, power-generation, and NOMAC operations.
- SAP working knowledge and awareness or working knowledge of the new IMS system are preferred.
- Project management, mentoring, coaching, people management, planning, organization, integration, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
Working relationships
Works closely with the Operations Manager, Shift Supervisors, control-room operators and engineers, chief or shift chemist, Planning Engineer, Maintenance, HSE, Purchasing, and Stores teams.
