Mechanical Engineer

Role summary

Maintenance delivery

• Assign preventive and corrective maintenance jobs and supervise and coordinate maintenance staff.
• Execute work orders through SAP CMMS and coordinate job completion and technical matters with the planning engineer.
• Support the Maintenance Manager in carrying out planned and corrective maintenance according to the annual maintenance schedule.
• Review and recommend maintenance procedures and work instructions.

Procurement and resources

• Technically evaluate purchase quotations and recommend an appropriate choice.
• Prepare requisitions for spare parts and consumables within budget and ensure strategic spares are available.
• Coordinate personnel and support effective use of resources in the assigned area.

Compliance and people

• Maintain required work records, reports, and correspondence and communicate matters requiring corrective action.
• Ensure environmental and hazard assessments are completed, controlled, and updated; implement and report integrated management system objectives.
• Ensure legal, contractual, and organizational compliance and address nonconformities through root cause analysis and corrective or preventive actions.
• Identify staff competency gaps, train new employees on the job, evaluate performance, and report emergencies, incidents, and near misses.

Education and experience

• Four-year bachelor’s engineering degree in mechanical engineering.
• 4–8 years of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• More than 8 years of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination, is preferred.

Required skills

• Awareness of quality, occupational health and safety, and environmental management system principles and applicable legal requirements.
• Knowledge of hazard risk and aspect-impact assessment, investigation, spillage containment, HSE emergencies, waste disposal, and emission monitoring.
• Ability to lead a maintenance group; excellent English communication; computer literacy and MS Outlook use.
• Ability to use SAP as an end user.

Work environment

• Work may involve moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather, elevated or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or chemical risks, and electrical shock.
• Noise is usually moderate, but very loud conditions can occur.
