Role expectations

The senior engineer owns end-to-end outcomes, plans projects, and makes independent technical decisions.

The role combines system architecture, mentoring, delivery planning, and alignment of technical solutions with business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system design and create high- and low-level technical specifications.
  • Evaluate architectures, frameworks, and tools for security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Maintain engineering standards for code quality, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • Coach junior and mid-level engineers and review code for bugs, performance, and standards.
  • Break features into tasks, estimate timelines and resources, mitigate technical risks, and address technical debt.
  • Explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
  • Diagnose difficult software issues and develop lasting solutions.
  • Refactor and optimize legacy code for performance and maintainability.

Qualifications

  • Strong fundamentals in software development and computer science.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language used at Callsign.
  • Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
  • Proficiency with cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to design large-scale, resilient, and secure software architectures.
