Role overview

Systems Analysts in Robotic Algorithms and Control design, develop, and support products in Intuitive’s da Vinci Surgery product line.

The role focuses on tele-robotic motion control and robotic manipulator control and safety algorithms for surgical robots and instruments.

Work spans electrical, mechanical, software, control, user interface, and safety engineering integration.

Essential job duties

  • Contribute to new surgical platform and instrument design through control-system analysis and prototype characterization.
  • Implement motion control algorithms and apply control theory to design and verify mechatronic and tele-robotic systems.
  • Assess electromechanical devices for dynamic safety and clinical risk; create physics-based safety monitoring algorithms.
  • Participate in clinical observations and experiments to validate performance requirements.
  • Document and pursue intellectual property, communicate system performance, and improve workflows through tools and teaching.
  • Support and track system performance from design through manufacturing.

Required skills and experience

  • Theoretical training in and experience implementing classical and modern servo control systems.
  • Strong embedded C and C++ programming capabilities and hardware, software, and mechanism integration skills.
  • Strong engineering intuition for mechatronic systems, attention to detail, and ability to complete solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Passion for product quality and continuous improvement.
  • At least six years of experience and a master’s degree, or a PhD with three years of experience, or equivalent experience.
