Team and context
The Land Drainage and Flood Risk Management Team protects communities, infrastructure and the environment across the Bradford District.
The team works within Planning, Transportation and Highways in the Growth Directorate and carries out the Council’s Lead Local Flood Authority responsibilities and manages its reservoir assets.
The team collaborates with partner organisations, regulators, local communities, developers and elected members.

The role provides specialist advice on reservoir safety, flood risk management, drainage design and planning matters.
The post supports the Council’s statutory duties as Reservoir Owner and Lead Local Flood Authority.
Main responsibilities
- Ensure the Council fulfils its statutory responsibilities as Lead Local Flood Authority and Reservoir Owner.
- Provide technical expertise in flood risk assessment, drainage engineering and the design of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
- Assess planning applications and provide specialist advice on surface water management and flood risk.
- Oversee reservoir management, maintenance programmes, procurement, contract administration and site supervision of engineering schemes.
- Lead flooding incident investigations and prepare statutory flood investigation reports.
- Work with internal and external partners to deliver flood risk management solutions.
Candidate requirements
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Flood Risk Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in flood risk management, drainage engineering and reservoir management.
- Membership of, or progress towards membership of, the ICE or CIWEM is desirable.
