About the role

Develop and validate electronic hardware for quantum-computing control systems.

Own hardware development from requirements definition through design, prototyping, laboratory characterization, and validation.

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership and coordination of external engineering consultants.

Electronic design and development

  • Translate system requirements into electronic architectures, schematics, and PCB layouts.
  • Design analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits, including RF circuits operating up to 10 GHz.
  • Address RF performance, impedance matching, transmission lines, grounding, shielding, crosstalk, and signal integrity.
  • Select components and assess performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability trade-offs.
  • Lead prototype bring-up, debugging, and iterative hardware improvements.

RF characterization and validation

  • Develop test plans and benchmark RF and mixed-signal hardware.
  • Use vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
  • Measure insertion loss, return loss, isolation, frequency response, noise, and spurious signals.
  • Analyze results, diagnose limitations, verify design requirements, and document procedures, results, and decisions.

System integration and leadership

  • Collaborate with digital, firmware, software, and mechanical engineers to integrate electronic assemblies.
  • Contribute to rack-mounted modules, enclosures, connectors, cabling, and backplane design; address data links, clocking, power, thermal constraints, and EMC.
  • Prepare statements of work, evaluate proposals and quotations, review external designs, and monitor outsourced technical progress.
  • Identify risks and ensure subcontracted work meets performance, quality, and documentation requirements.
  • Report progress, design decisions, and risks to the Lead of Quantum Computing Control.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Extensive relevant experience developing complex electronic hardware.
  • Strong practical expertise in RF PCB design, including circuits operating at frequencies approaching 10 GHz.
  • Solid RF knowledge including transmission-line theory, impedance matching, S-parameters, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity.
  • Experience designing analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics; proficiency with EDA schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver hardware through prototyping, debugging, testing, and validation.
  • Practical RF instrumentation and systematic hardware characterization experience.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills; able to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Available to work full-time on-site at the employer’s Abu Dhabi offices.

Preferred qualifications

  • AMD/Xilinx RFSoC platform integration; custom RFSoC SOM development involving high-speed interfaces, memory, clocking, power, and RF signal paths.
  • FPGA hardware, high-speed serial interfaces, modular instrumentation, rack-mounted systems, backplanes, and high-density interconnects.
  • Mechanical integration, thermal management, EMC, automated laboratory measurements using Python or similar tools, and consultant coordination.
  • Background in RF instrumentation, telecommunications, scientific equipment, or test and measurement systems.

Personal attributes and opportunity

Apply sound engineering judgment and measurement-driven problem-solving, balancing circuit-level detail with system requirements.

Proactively resolve technical risks and take accountability for engineering quality, technical decisions, and deliverables.

Contribute to advanced quantum-control electronics in a research and technology development environment.
