Senior Category Engineer

Role purpose

Category strategy and implementation

• Define and revisit category positioning and purchasing strategy using needs analysis, market intelligence, and implementation planning.
• Support technical stakeholders in consolidating current and future needs; analyse supplier markets and category cost breakdowns.
• Develop strategies with technical stakeholders and present them to relevant committees for validation.
• Prepare detailed implementation plans, schedules, and indicators, then implement validated strategies.
• Lead category management and monitor deployment against quality, cost, and time criteria through KPIs, reporting, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate operational implementation, contribute to supplier-panel development, and keep category strategies updated.

Supplier and stakeholder support

• Report on framework contract application, strategy implementation, and operational results.
• Coordinate information on strategic supplier relationships and maintain a relevant supplier panel.
• Monitor supplier risks, including material quality and safety, human, ethical, or HSE impacts.
• Conduct tenders and contribute to supplier qualification through requests for information, audits, and financial analysis.
• Negotiate agreements and framework contracts, support major projects, and address implementation difficulties with management.
• Attend relevant external events, visit and audit suppliers, update contractual records, and negotiate framework contracts.

Education and experience

• BSc degree in a science or commercial field, or equivalent.
• Eight years of post-graduate purchasing experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Good knowledge of company operations, petroleum-industry equipment, specifications, manufacturers, operations, and certification requirements.

Tools and certification

• Good knowledge of Contract & Procurement tools such as SAP, MPP, GEP, and Coconut.
• CIPS certification is an advantage.
