Applications Engineer

Role purpose

Application and service delivery

• Provide functional and technical support for subsurface applications and manage their lifecycle across Windows and Linux environments.
• Troubleshoot application, integration, database, infrastructure, and access issues; resolve incidents within agreed SLAs.
• Coordinate application upgrades, patches, testing, deployments, and transition to operations.
• Monitor application availability, performance, incidents, usage, and license consumption; identify service improvements.
• Maintain application documentation, user guides, support procedures, and disaster-recovery readiness.

Digital solutions and delivery

• Gather business requirements, map workflows, and define technical specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Design, prototype, develop, test, document, and maintain applications, integrations, workflow automations, and data interfaces.
• Develop tools on approved platforms, including machine-learning, generative AI, copilots, or intelligent automation where they deliver measurable value.
• Apply secure development, version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, data access controls, and governance.
• Plan digital initiatives and evaluate emerging subsurface technologies and AI solutions for adoption.

Collaboration and commercial support

• Collaborate with architecture, infrastructure, cloud, data, cybersecurity, service management, users, and vendors.
• Communicate delivery status, technical risks, dependencies, obstacles, service performance, and realized value.
• Support vendor, contract, license, procurement, and budget activities, including cost optimization and performance tracking.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and coordinate project milestones, dependencies, and risks.

Work environment

• Position is located in the Doha office, with standard office hours five days a week.
• Projects include application upgrades and deployments, new software solutions, workflow improvements, integrations, cloud and data-platform initiatives, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled tools.

Education and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Petroleum Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least six years of relevant IT experience supporting, administering, or implementing business-critical applications.
• Experience supporting subsurface software in reservoir engineering, geoscience, drilling, or petroleum data management.
• Hands-on development experience with applications, automations, integrations, or data products.
• Oil & Gas and enterprise solution delivery experience is strongly preferred.

Technical qualifications

• Knowledge of subsurface workflows and vendor applications such as SLB, Halliburton, Peloton, Weatherford, or Kappa.
• Knowledge of application architectures, databases, access management, networking, Windows/Linux, security, and integration patterns.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language; Python is preferred. Django, APIs, SQL, scripting, source control, and automated testing are relevant.
• Familiarity with cloud and enterprise low-code/data-science platforms, GitHub, GitHub Codespaces, and CI/CD deployment to AKS.
• AI-enabled development, machine learning, generative AI, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, or intelligent automation experience is desirable.
• Relevant certifications in subsurface application management, cloud, software development, data/AI, ITIL, or project delivery are a plus.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
