Senior Buyer – Fresh Produce, in the Procurement department, responsible for sourcing and purchasing across the fresh-produce category.
The full-time role is based in Dubai, UAE, with in-person work.
Key responsibilities
- Source fruits, vegetables, salad leaves, herbs, and other perishables from local and international suppliers, importers, farms, and wholesalers.
- Evaluate and onboard suppliers, create alternative sources, and negotiate prices, credit terms, discounts, specifications, packaging, and delivery schedules.
- Visit wholesale markets to monitor prices, seasonality, and availability; recommend products to add or discontinue based on range performance.
- Calculate landed costs and margins; support pricing with current purchase data.
- Ensure quality, specification, and shelf-life standards; resolve supplier claims and rejections.
- Plan purchases using sales forecasts, customer requirements, and stock levels to reduce wastage.
- Maintain supplier, price, contract, and purchasing records; coordinate supply and documentation with sales, warehouse, logistics, and finance.
Required qualifications
- At least five years of UAE fresh-produce buying or procurement experience in importing, distribution, retail, or food service.
- Established network of UAE fresh-produce suppliers, importers, and traders.
- Strong knowledge of produce types, origins, seasonality, quality grades, and shelf life.
- Strong negotiation, commercial, numerical, communication, and independent working skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel; valid UAE driving licence.
- Fluent English; Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam, or Arabic is advantageous.
Preferred qualifications
- ERP experience is an advantage.
- Experience with import procedures and UAE food regulations is preferred.
- Understanding of retail, online grocery, HoReCa, and food-service buying requirements is preferred.
Pay
- Advertised pay is AED 10,000–20,000 per month.
