Research role

Responsibilities

• Develop and conduct high-quality research in one or more program tracks and help build a coherent research program.
• Develop proposals, publish in high-quality journals and conferences, supervise students, and contribute to teaching and knowledge transfer.
• Collaborate with academic and industry partners and prepare research demonstrators and prototypes.

Research tracks

• Agentic AI: autonomous systems, AI agents, multi-agent systems, planning, reasoning, tool use, and human–AI interaction.
• Small Language Models: efficient architectures, compression, edge deployment, privacy-preserving AI, domain adaptation, and resource-efficient inference.
• Responsible AI: fairness, transparency, explainability, robustness, safety, privacy, governance, evaluation, and trustworthy deployment.

Minimum qualifications

• MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Research experience in at least one of Agentic AI and autonomous systems, Small Language Models and efficient AI, or Responsible and trustworthy AI.
• Peer-reviewed journal or conference publications; strong programming skills, preferably Python, and experience with relevant AI and machine-learning frameworks.
• Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research and strong written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Research expertise across two or more program areas and publications in leading AI, machine-learning, NLP, or responsible-AI venues.
• Experience with large-scale experiments, GPU training, distributed computing, efficient inference, RAG, tool-using agents, federated learning, or privacy-preserving machine learning.
• Experience developing prototypes, datasets, benchmarks, or open-source software; contributing to funded research; supervising students or teaching AI courses.
• Experience with research partners, AI applications in the UAE or wider region, or translating research into real-world applications.
