Operating across Europe at partner level, we advise not only on individual hires, but on how practices are built, repositioned, and scaled over time. This requires a level of preparation, discipline, and market understanding that extends materially beyond conventional recruitment models.
We do not measure success by activity or volume, but by influence, precision, and long-term market positioning.
The Mandate
We are seeking individuals capable of building, penetrating, and influencing defined segments of the European legal market. This role sits at the intersection of partner-level business development, strategic positioning, and intelligence-led advisory. It is not structured around inheriting a desk, but around creating one.
You will build a market position, supported by infrastructure, data, and a team designed to enable disciplined and scalable execution.
Business Development as Advisory
The central focus of the role is business development, though not in its conventional sense. It is advisory-led, grounded in relevance rather than immediacy. You will be responsible for positioning Zagros with leading law firms across Europe, advising on lateral hiring strategy and team composition, and identifying where genuine commercial opportunities align with market timing.
The emphasis is not on short-term conversion, but on building sustained client relevance over time.
Building and Owning a Market
You will take ownership of a defined segment of the European legal market, whether by jurisdiction, practice area, or client cluster. This involves systematically mapping firms, teams, and individuals, identifying key power centres, and building a structured pipeline of partner-level stakeholders. The objective is not simply to know the market, but to understand it with enough depth to act within it effectively.
Insight-led coverage, rather than surface-level connectivity, is what translates into access and opportunity.
Execution at Senior Level
Engagement with senior lawyers is expected to be deliberate, informed, and commercially grounded. You will initiate conversations without reliance on existing relationships, delivering perspectives shaped by market intelligence rather than generic outreach. Over time, these conversations are developed into structured, strategic processes.
Credibility is established through preparation and substance, not familiarity alone.
Operating Through Market Intelligence
A defining feature of the Zagros model is the depth and application of market intelligence.
You will be expected to track deal flow, partner movement, and firm strategy, while developing a detailed understanding of partnership economics and internal dynamics. The ability to introduce information into the market that is not widely accessible is central to the role.
Information, when applied with discipline, becomes a decisive competitive advantage.
What Differentiates the Model
Many recruitment firms conflate activity with effectiveness. We do not.
Our approach is structured around a small number of non-negotiable principles:
Value precedes relationship. Preparation precedes outreach. Strategy precedes activity.
You are not expected to know everyone, nor to rely on pre-existing networks. What is expected is the ability to learn quickly, execute with discipline, and contribute value from the outset.
A Structured and Collaborative Model
Our operating model is deliberately collaborative and structured.
We invest significantly in preparation at mandate level, as well as ongoing training through role-play, rebuttal work, and shared market intelligence. Consultants operate with ownership, but within a framework designed to ensure consistency, quality, and long-term development.
We have found that early independence, while appealing, often leads to fragmentation. Our approach is to build capability through shared standards and collective execution.
Performance is developed systematically — not left to chance.

We place particular emphasis on intellectual curiosity, the ability to synthesise information into clear commercial insight, and discipline in time allocation and prioritisation. Consistency of effort is valued more highly than intensity in short bursts.

The Zagros Model
You will not operate in isolation, but within a team of specialists supporting one another across market mapping, candidate generation, intelligence gathering, and process execution.
Training is continuous and deliberate, incorporating weekly role-play, mandate-specific preparation, and real-time deal analysis.
The intention is to create consistency of performance across the team, rather than reliance on individual variance.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is measured by the ability to open conversations with senior partners without prior relationships, to translate market insight into tangible commercial outcomes, and to build credibility before familiarity.
Over time, this develops into the ability to allocate time effectively toward high-value activity and to operate with increasing strategic clarity.
Ultimately, the role evolves into that of a trusted adviser to partners and firms — not as a function of tenure, but as a result of consistent delivery, insight, and reliability.
Whom This Role Is Designed For
This role is suited to individuals with exposure to the legal market who are seeking to operate at a partner level, as well as commercially minded professionals motivated by building something substantive rather than inheriting an existing structure.
It is less suited to those who are transactional in approach, process-driven in mindset, or primarily motivated by comfort and short-term ease.
