Overview
- We are looking for a Project Director to run a highly strategic assignment as the successful individual would effectively act as the owner’s representative overseeing a major capital project in the region.
- The project involves the design and construction of a Gas (H2S/CO2) processing plant within a large scale oil field development in Abu Dhabi.
- The individual would oversee the project through the full lifecycle from FEED through EPC execution and commissioning while working closely with the CEO, project stakeholders, and lenders.
- Brief overview:
- Strong EPC project delivery experience across the full project lifecycle, from FEED onward
- A solid engineering and construction background
- Experience delivering large scale capital projects in the $500M+ range
- Prior Middle East project experience, particularly within the GCC region
- Strong stakeholder management and owner side/client facing capability
- Sour gas processing experience is not essential, but it would certainly be a strong advantage.
- The ideal candidate would be commercially minded, credible with executive stakeholders, and capable of operating autonomously in a complex project environment.
- The role is based in Abu Dhabi on a residential basis.

Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead the full project lifecycle from FEED to commissioning.
- Support owner’s legal and financial teams in the development of contracting strategy (EPC, EPCm, DBOOM).
- Ensure project execution is aligned with contractual, technical, and safety requirements.
- Develop and manage the staffing program for owner’s multidisciplinary project team (engineering, procurement, EHS, inspection, etc.).
- Maintain clear, proactive communication to resolve issues and prevent delays.
HSE Priorities
- Champion an industry leading safety culture across all project phases.
- Ensure strict compliance with all HSE requirements.
- Promote comprehensive safety assurance and auditing throughout the execution phase.
Contract Management
- Ensure contract compliance and lead amendment process.
- Oversee budget management and forecasting.
- Identify and mitigate commercial and execution risks.
- Manage integrated project schedules and provide accurate reporting to stakeholders.
Essential Technical Competencies
- Plant process design
- Acid gas removal
- Sulphur removal unit
- Mechanical refrigeration / stabilisation
- Safety and process containment
- Control systems, utilities
- Material selection and constructability
- Compliance with recognised international codes and standards
- Optimised design for operability and maintenance
Requirements & Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 20 years’ relative experience in large capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering sour gas projects valued at $500M-$1B USD.
- Extensive history working in the Middle East with onshore oil & gas projects.
- Proven experience in management of EPC / EPCm / DBOOM contracts.
- Strong commercial and contractual acumen.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
