Product development and leadership
- Prioritize geotechnical product requirements, including sensor data quality, structural picking, strength and classification workflows, validation, and delivery cadence.
- Maintain and evolve the product canvas and roadmap.
- Coordinate work across the workstream, assess competition and capability gaps, and recommend strategy and resourcing.
- Prototype geotechnical algorithms and workflows, and guide prediction model development with data scientists and software developers.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop workstream team members.
Client support and execution
- Explain the value of automated geotechnical outputs for stability design, mine planning, ground support optimization, and risk management.
- Support technical review meetings with client geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists.
- Scope logging, classification, and strength prediction workflows; review client data and generated outputs for engineering validity.
- Design and oversee validation studies across defect picks, drill-hole domains, and laboratory strength testing.
- Develop or supervise calibration and prediction models, ensuring interpretable behavior and explicit uncertainty.
- Collaborate on geological, resource, and geotechnical domain models, and build relevant academic and industry relationships.
Required qualifications
- Requires a degree in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, rock mechanics, or a closely related field.
- Requires R&D-to-commercial-product experience and experience leading technical teams through ambiguous product development.
- Requires strong geotechnical logging and rock mass characterization knowledge, including RQD, fracture frequency, discontinuity attributes, weathering, alteration, RMR, Q, and GSI.
- Requires experience evaluating automated imaging and sensor data against manual logging and laboratory measurements.
- Requires familiarity with UCS, point load, Brazilian tensile, and triaxial testing, plus technical coding literacy for reviewing notebooks and modeling choices.
- Requires project leadership, prioritization, mentoring, and a record of making decisions under uncertainty.
- Existing networks in geotechnical, rock mechanics, or mining engineering are required. Professional registration is an asset.
- Mining industry experience and technical coding or model-building capabilities are assets.
Benefits
- Benefits include extended health and dental coverage, a flexible schedule, and opportunities for remote work.
