MEP Procurement Engineer role in procurement/commercial for an electromechanical contracting business.
Procures electrical and mechanical materials, equipment, subcontracted works, and services for MEP projects in line with specifications, schedules, budgets, and contractual requirements.
Sourcing and purchasing
- Review project BOQs, specifications, drawings, material submittals, approved vendor lists, schedules, and material requisitions.
- Send RFQs to suitable suppliers and subcontractors; evaluate quotations on technical compliance, price, delivery, payment terms, warranty, and commercial conditions.
- Prepare comparison sheets, negotiate commercial terms, and issue approved purchase orders/LPOs.
- Coordinate material compliance, approvals, samples, technical data sheets, and documentation with project engineers and suppliers.
- Coordinate deliveries with project and site requirements; follow up on delays and procurement risks.
Commercial and supplier coordination
- Monitor purchasing against project budgets and report cost variances; coordinate budget availability and committed-cost reporting with Cost Control/Commercial.
- Coordinate supplier invoices and payments with Accounts; verify invoices against approved LPOs, delivery notes, and agreed terms.
- Maintain procurement logs, quotation and approval records, LPOs, delivery records, invoices, and supplier correspondence.
- Maintain supplier/subcontractor databases, evaluate performance, and identify alternative suppliers and equivalent materials subject to technical and client/consultant approval.
- Support urgent project procurement, material shortages, major MEP packages, and subcontractor commercial evaluations when required.
- Procure packages including switchgear, cables, busbars, lighting, containment, wiring accessories, HVAC, plumbing, pumps, fire-fighting, and ELV systems.
- Ensure procurement complies with company procedures, project requirements, and contractual obligations.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in MEP procurement for construction or electromechanical contracting companies; knowledge of MEP materials, equipment, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to read BOQs, specifications, technical drawings, and material submittals.
- Strong commercial negotiation and supplier-management skills; good Microsoft Excel and ERP/procurement systems knowledge, such as Odoo.
- Good written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of the UAE MEP supplier market is preferred.
Performance measures
Performance measures include procurement cost against budget, negotiation savings, on-time delivery, procurement delays affecting site progress, and RFQ-to-LPO processing time.
Other measures include supplier delivery and quality, procurement record and committed-cost accuracy, purchases within approved budgets and specifications, reduced urgent purchases, and compliance with approved procurement processes.
