Principal Software Engineer, InfraEng Platform Team

Team and role

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the current codebase and decide whether to extend or rebuild it; set technical direction.
• Build APIs, services, and data models for self-service infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments.
• Define control plane and data plane boundaries and document architectural decisions.
• Define shared platform contracts and patterns, and help partner teams adopt them.
• Build shared identity and authorization using RBAC and ABAC, with a complete audit trail for exposed actions.
• Ship backend services and console, CLI, and API surfaces, using Go, Python, Java, or other suitable tools.
• Convert common infrastructure requests into bounded self-service actions.
• Establish CI/CD, source control, and deployment safety practices.
• Own production operations, including observability, on-call, incident response, and postmortems.
• Work with connectivity, backbone, cloud, and product teams; influence shared interfaces and roadmaps.
• Mentor future team members.

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including building and operating platform or infrastructure software at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or equivalent systems and platform languages.
• Deep understanding of control plane and data plane design, desired state, reconciliation, failure isolation, and blast radius.
• Hands-on AWS or equivalent cloud experience across compute, networking, IAM, storage, and managed Kubernetes.
• Strong grounding in containers, ephemeral compute, and immutable infrastructure patterns, or equivalent.
• Experience shipping backend services and user-facing console, CLI, or API surfaces for large and varied users.
• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and branching and release strategies that enable safe deployments with many contributors.
• Depth below the application layer in networking, systems, or cloud, with willingness to learn other areas.
• High ownership and operational excellence, including running systems, measuring performance, and fixing root causes.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and peer teams without authority.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security clearance.

Preferred qualifications

• Identity and authorization systems such as OIDC, SAML, OPA, or Cedar; implementation of RBAC or ABAC models.
• Azure, on-premises, or equivalent multi-provider environments and cross-provider abstractions.
• Kubernetes controllers or operators, Crossplane, or equivalent infrastructure abstraction frameworks.
• Infrastructure as code at scale using Terraform, OpenTofu, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with enterprise networking or backbone infrastructure.
• Experience in regulated environments such as FedRAMP, DoD IL levels, or CMMC.
• TypeScript and React experience for console development.
