Halcon seeks a Principal Engineer: Software (Embedded Software System Engineer) to lead definition, architecture, and integration of high-performance real-time embedded software systems.
The role is the technical authority bridging system requirements, software architecture, hardware interfaces, and software development teams.
The engineer will drive system engineering activities, ensure requirements compliance, mentor engineers, and support scalable safety-critical solutions for defense and aerospace platforms.
Responsibilities
- Translate high-level system requirements into detailed software requirements and maintain end-to-end traceability.
- Define software architectures, interface control documents, and hardware-software integration strategies for real-time embedded systems.
- Act as technical authority and liaison among software engineers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, and project stakeholders.
- Lead software system engineering activities and technical reviews; mentor engineers and develop team capabilities.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 15 years of embedded software engineering experience; defense, military, aerospace, or aviation experience is preferred.
- At least 3 years as a Software Architect, Software System Engineer, or Technical Lead.
- Strong knowledge of software system engineering, requirements management, traceability tools such as Jama, and embedded hardware-software integration.
- English proficiency is required for all roles unless otherwise stated.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience certifying safety-critical software to DO-178C Level A or an equivalent standard.
- Expertise in MBSE, SCADE, safety-critical middleware, FPGA interfacing, and embedded communication protocols.
