Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), load schedules, schematics, technical specifications, and design reports for data centre projects.
• Coordinate and review the design of MV/LV distribution systems, UPS, generators, switchgear, earthing, lightning protection, containment, lighting, and small power installations, including electrical studies such as arc flash, protection coordination, and discrimination studies.
• Review consultant and contractor submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements, applicable authority regulations, and the approved Basis of Design (BoD).
• Prepare, review, and mark up CAD drawings, layouts, redlines, and technical sketches as required.
• Support the design and construction coordination of mission-critical facilities, including data centres, hospitals, airports, clean rooms, and similar complex environments.
• Provide electrical engineering support during construction, inspections, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, and handover to ensure successful project delivery.
• Collaborate closely with consultants, contractors, utility providers, equipment vendors, and internal development, design, and construction teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10–15 years' experience in electrical building services design within the built environment.
• At least 5 years' experience delivering mission-critical projects.
• Previous experience with a leading engineering consultancy or data centre developer.
• Proven experience in data centre design and/or construction is highly desirable.
• Middle East, particularly KSA, project experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership) would be an advantage.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in CAD, technical documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and problem-solving.
