Optum seeks a Principal Data Engineer to lead enterprise-scale client reporting, analytics, and data-driven solutions.
The role supports health optimization through data, reporting, business intelligence, and modern analytics platforms.
Primary responsibilities
- Lead enterprise client reporting, analytics, data products, and reporting modernization initiatives.
- Define reporting requirements, KPIs, metrics, analytics roadmaps, governance standards, and operating models.
- Build client-facing dashboards, executive reporting, scorecards, and self-service analytics capabilities.
- Collaborate across business, product, technology, data engineering, and client teams.
- Enable AI-assisted analytics and intelligent automation through GenAI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
- Ensure data accuracy, security, governance, compliance, and reporting controls.
- Mentor analysts and engineers and provide leadership, guidance, and coaching.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, data analytics, business analytics, engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in analytics, reporting, business intelligence, data engineering, or related disciplines.
- Experience with enterprise reporting, analytics, data platforms, executive dashboards, client-facing reports, and self-service analytics.
- Hands-on expertise with SQL, Python, reporting tools, data modeling, data lakes, ETL/ELT, and data integration.
- Experience with automation, CI/CD, modern data platforms, reporting transformation, or enterprise BI initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of Azure cloud services; AWS and/or GCP experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of data governance, security, compliance, stakeholder management, client engagement, and executive presentation.
- Experience leading geographically distributed analytics, reporting, or data engineering teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience supporting healthcare, financial, operational, or client reporting functions.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Azure Synapse, or equivalent analytics platforms.
- Knowledge of GenAI-enabled analytics, narrative reporting, and intelligent insight generation.
