Role overview

Qualifications and experience

• A PhD is required in Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Systems or Power Electronics, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Applicants need a strong academic record in teaching, research, and scholarly publications in power and renewable energy engineering.
• Relevant expertise in power systems, renewable energy technologies, power electronics, or energy storage is required.
• Candidates must be able to deliver practice-based engineering education integrating theory and laboratory applications.
• Assistant Professor applicants need at least 2 years of undergraduate teaching at a QS top-300 university, curriculum development experience, and experience supervising undergraduate graduation projects.
• Associate Professor applicants need at least 5 years of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at a QS top-500 university, a strong publication record, and MSc/PhD supervision experience.
• Energy-sector industry collaboration, applied research, or consultancy is desirable; relevant professional certifications are an asset.
• ABET familiarity is preferred for Associate Professor applicants. Laboratory development, industry partnerships, or programme development experience is particularly encouraged.

Teaching and research areas

• Teaching areas include solar and wind energy, electric machines, electrical drives and converters, energy conversion and storage, power transmission and distribution, power quality, and smart grids.
• Candidates should integrate practical laboratory activities, engineering simulation tools, and industry-relevant case studies into teaching.
• Priority research themes include renewable energy integration, smart grids, grid modernisation, energy storage, power electronics, energy conversion, and sustainable smart cities.
• Research is expected to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDGs 7, 9, 11, and 13.
• Expected research output is 2 to 5 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, preferably Q1/Q2 Scopus-indexed journals, commensurate with rank and institutional expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and applicable postgraduate courses; maintain course materials, assess students, and grade work promptly.
• Supervise student projects, internships, and applicable postgraduate research, and provide advising and support.
• Develop curricula and courses, assess programmes, and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Develop specialised laboratories, including equipment selection, experiment design, procedures, and safety standards.
• Conduct and publish research and pursue collaborations with academic institutions and industry partners.
• Support programme operations and development, establish industry relationships, participate in governance and accreditation, mentor students, and contribute to outreach and sustainability initiatives.
