Role overview
The Planning Manager oversees Material Planners and Production Schedulers to coordinate resources, materials and schedules against project objectives.
The role requires leadership, strategic planning capability and a strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
Principal duties
- Lead, mentor and develop planning and scheduling team members.
- Develop planning strategies aligned with project goals and customer requirements.
- Optimise inventory management and production scheduling to improve efficiency and reduce lead times.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, procurement and production teams.
- Manage scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, KPIs, reporting and risk updates.
- Implement process improvements and improve forecasting and demand planning effectiveness.
Essential skills and experience
- At least 5 years of planning, scheduling or supply chain experience in manufacturing, including at least 2 years in leadership.
- Production planning and scheduling experience, ERP/MRP proficiency and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
- ASCM CPIM, CSCP or equivalent certification.
- Complex project-based manufacturing experience is highly desirable.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage pressure, multiple priorities and change.
Performance indicators
Manufacturing start of work versus manufacturing need date.
Production schedule adherence and work centre utilisation.
Work order aging, cancellation messages and pull-in or push-out activity.
Excess inventory.
Working conditions
The role includes regular computer and telephone work, occasional lifting and occasional travel by air or road.
The work environment may include moderate office noise.
