Role overview

Qualification

• Certified as an Assistant Consultant by SCFHS.
• Maintain CME recertification requirements.
• Have the minimum requirements and knowledge to conduct scientific research.

Clinical responsibilities

• Assist consultants with clinical work and provide care within the assigned scope and granted privileges.
• Provide consultations, follow-up care, procedures, on-call duties, and other assigned clinical work.
• Care settings include outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency rooms, operating rooms, day units, and intensive care units.
• Practice according to current evidence-based standards under consultant supervision.
• Support quality improvement, accreditation requirements, patient safety, and a safe healing environment.
• Educate patients and families and support patient-centered care.
• Supervise residents and contribute to their development and performance feedback.

Administrative responsibilities

• Undertake administrative duties related to patient care, quality assurance, and improvement.
• Contribute to clinical guidelines, pathways, evidence-based practices, audits, peer reviews, and morbidity and mortality rounds.
• Support department and hospital development through procurement, recruitment, workforce planning, policies, process improvement, manuals, committees, and collaboration as needed.

Education and research

• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and provide regular teaching to team members at appropriate levels.
• Join service, section, and department educational activities, including rounds, journal clubs, and meetings.
• Participate in continuing professional development and maintain CME recertification requirements.
• Participate in department or hospital research and work toward scientific publications.
