Manager, Software Development (Content Integration & Data Pipelines)

About the role

Team and technical leadership

• Set team goals and expectations and foster accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Set architecture and technical direction for crawling, collection, and mention matching; translate client and business needs into a roadmap with Product Owners.
• Keep systems scalable, reliable, and cost-effective as content volume and source coverage grow.
• Define and monitor coverage, accuracy, latency, uptime, and data-quality metrics.
• Oversee incident response and on-call processes, lead production root-cause analysis, and contribute through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on problem solving.

Delivery, compliance, and partnerships

• Work with Customer Success to prioritize and resolve client-reported missing mentions and coverage problems.
• Ensure collection practices comply with robots.txt, platform terms of service, copyright and licensing obligations, and privacy legislation, working with Legal as needed.
• Evaluate tools, AI techniques, and data providers that can improve coverage and relevance.
• Manage vendor and platform API partner relationships with Content Partnerships.

Experience and technical qualifications

• 7+ years in software development, including web crawling, data ingestion, or large-scale data pipelines; 2+ years managing or leading software developers.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Java or similar type-safe language background; distributed-systems design experience, including message queues or streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or Solr and Boolean query logic; experience with social media APIs and third-party data providers.
• Understand the legal and ethical considerations of web and social data collection.
• Agile experience and experience with JIRA and Confluence.

Additional assets and working strengths

• Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD experience are assets.
• NLP, LLMs, entity recognition, or sentiment-analysis experience is an asset; PR software, media monitoring, social listening, or newswire experience is also an asset.
• Communicate technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders; use metrics to guide decisions and measure team success.

Compensation

• Expected compensation range is CAD $145,000–$165,000 annually; final offer reflects experience, skills, and internal equity.
