About the role

What you'll do

• Lead and develop software developers, set goals, and foster accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Set technical direction and architecture for crawling, collection, and mention-matching systems.
• Translate client needs and business priorities into a technical roadmap with Product Owners.
• Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and cost-effective; develop an evaluation framework for AI agents.
• Oversee incident response, on-call processes, and production root-cause analysis.
• Contribute through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on problem-solving; evaluate tools and AI techniques to improve productivity.

What you'll bring

• 7+ years in software development, including web crawling, data ingestion, or large-scale data pipelines; 2+ years managing or leading software developers.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Java or similar type-safe language background; distributed systems experience, including message queues or streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD are assets.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or Solr and Boolean query logic; experience with APIs and third-party data providers.
• Agile experience and use of JIRA and Confluence; clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Data-driven decision-making and leadership that balances delivery with team growth and well-being.
• NLP, LLMs, entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and PR/media industry experience are assets.

Workplace

• The role is fully remote.

Compensation

• Expected annual compensation range is CAD $145,000–$165,000; final offer depends on experience, skills, and internal equity.
