About the role

What you'll do

• Lead and develop software developers, set goals, and build a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Set architecture and technical direction for crawling, collection, and mention-matching systems; turn business and client needs into a technical roadmap.
• Keep systems scalable, reliable, and cost-effective; monitor source coverage, mention accuracy, latency, uptime, and data quality.
• Oversee incident response, on-call processes, and production root-cause analysis; contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on problem solving.
• Work with Customer Success on client coverage issues and with Legal as needed to support compliant data collection.
• Evaluate tools, AI techniques, and data providers; manage vendor and platform API partner relationships.

What you'll bring

• 7+ years of software development experience, including web crawling, data ingestion, or large-scale data pipelines.
• 2+ years managing or leading software developers.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Java or similar type-safe language background and distributed systems design experience, including message queues or streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Experience with social media APIs and third-party data providers; understanding of legal and ethical data collection considerations.
• Experience in Agile environments and with JIRA and Confluence; strong communication and data-driven decision-making skills.

Additional assets

• Cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD experience is an asset.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or Solr and Boolean query logic is sought.
• NLP, LLMs, entity recognition, sentiment analysis, PR software, media monitoring, social listening, or Newswire industry experience is an asset.

Work arrangement

• The position is fully remote.

Compensation and benefits

• Expected compensation is CAD 145,000 to CAD 165,000 annually; the final offer reflects experience, skills, and internal equity.
