Manager - Heavy Section Mill

Role overview

Strategy and leadership

• Contribute to Heavy Section Mill business development and strategic planning and advise the business on rolling and finishing process issues.
• Set plant, departmental, and individual objectives aligned with business goals.
• Lead production, maintenance, and associated functions; manage performance, develop and motivate staff, and provide feedback and appraisals.
• Prepare and manage annual budgets and cost management; support OPEX/CAPEX budgets.

Operations, maintenance, and assets

• Plan resources and oversee rolling-process controls and work instructions for efficient, cost-effective operations.
• Ensure safe processes, build safety culture, maintain work instructions, and establish risk assessments when needed.
• Resolve critical technical and production problems to minimize downtime and lead equipment and process improvement.
• Collaborate on asset management, maintenance and shutdown strategies, and customer relationships.
• Support maintenance systems that maximize plant availability, capture equipment costs, and implement predictive and preventive maintenance.
• Support capital plans and reviews of asset condition to ensure assets meet strategic and legislative requirements.

Safety, quality, and compliance

• Maintain quality management systems and ensure products meet consumer expectations while minimizing nonconformance.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental policies, procedures, controls, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate departmental activities with external suppliers and other agencies.
• Support world-class manufacturing and HSEQ practices and the stated ISO 9001/14001/18001 accreditation objectives.

Education and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Management.
• 10–15 years' experience in medium or heavy section mills.
• 5–10 years in a senior management role in medium or heavy section mills.
• Familiarity with projects and plant start-ups.
• Strong engineering experience in rolling mills.
