The Lead Software Engineer joins the Global Liquidity and Cash Management Technology team to deliver technology for the Corporate & Investment Bank's Payments business.
The role supports a low-latency, globally scaled wholesale banking platform serving hundreds of millions of accounts and thousands of requests per second.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of a quality engineering framework for a complex, low-latency distributed system, with scope extending to production code.
- Design and develop secure, performant, thread-safe code and review code using software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, infrastructure, and engineering teams on technical designs and client features.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions, architecture artifacts, stories, and build plans.
- Assess compliance, risks, vulnerabilities, scalability, performance, and operational soundness.
- Support recruitment, paired programming, peer review, mentoring, production releases, and out-of-hours application support.
- Drive authorised AI-assisted engineering and automation practices with secure coding, peer review, and automated testing standards.
Required qualifications and skills
- Formal training or certification in enterprise software development concepts and advanced applied experience.
- Excellent understanding of Java 17+ fundamentals, frameworks such as Spring Boot, object-oriented programming, multithreading, messaging, and computer networks.
- Strong experience producing test cases and using automated testing frameworks for functional and non-functional requirements.
- Knowledge of relational databases, including resiliency, recoverability, scalability, and security considerations.
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design and application development.
