Role overview

The Lead Software Engineer joins JPMorganChase’s Global Liquidity and Cash Management Technology team, supporting the Corporate & Investment Bank payments business.

The role contributes to a globally scaled, low-latency wholesale banking platform.

Initially, the engineer leads development of a quality engineering framework for validating a complex distributed system, with work extending to production code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop secure, robust, high-performance, latency-sensitive code and review team code.
  • Collaborate across product and technical teams on designs and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Produce architecture and design artifacts and ensure implementation meets design constraints.
  • Assess compliance, risks, and vulnerabilities and maintain operationally sound, scalable systems.
  • Support team growth through recruitment, pair programming, peer review, and mentoring.
  • Lead engineering subteams by turning requirements into stories and build plans.
  • Drive authorized AI-assisted engineering practices with secure coding, peer review, automated testing, and validation standards.
  • Use SDLC tools and automation capabilities to improve engineering outcomes.
  • Provide out-of-hours application support and coordinate production releases.

Required qualifications and skills

  • Formal training or certification in enterprise software development concepts and advanced applied experience.
  • Excellent understanding of Java 17+ and frameworks such as Spring Boot, object-oriented programming, multithreading, messaging, and computer networks.
  • Strong experience producing test cases and using automated testing frameworks for functional and non-functional requirements, such as JUnit, Blazemeter, or JMeter.
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and CockroachDB, including resiliency, recoverability, scalability, and security.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design and application development.
  • Banking experience is not required; the employer seeks a motivated technologist eager to learn.
