Lead Design Engineer

About the role

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of manned and unmanned turrets, including Remote Weapon Stations.
• Perform CAD design, calculations, material and subsystem selection, and requirements analysis.
• Lead and mentor engineers and designers; own design packages and subsystems through prototype verification.
• Develop solutions to performance, cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
• Lead prototype manufacturing, assembly, integration, and verification; perform systems engineering and coordinate subsystem integration.
• Review Technical Data Packs and define work packages, resources, and development plans.
• Monitor progress, risks, dependencies, and milestones; maintain engineering processes and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, testing, and production teams; support introduction, serial production, and after-sales activities.
• Provide technical updates to R&D leadership, including risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 6 years designing and developing Turrets & Weapon Systems and at least 2 years leading or managing engineers or designers.
• Hands-on experience with manned or unmanned turrets, Remote Weapon Stations, or related weapon systems and their subsystem integration.
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototype, integration, and verification; knowledge of engineering principles, design processes, and product release.
• Experience developing and reviewing Technical Data Packs; proficiency with relevant engineering tools such as CAD, PLM, CAE, MATLAB/Simulink, or discipline-specific tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication; English proficiency is required.

Preferred qualifications

• A master's or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
• Preferred experience includes completed turret, RWS, or major subsystem designs; multidisciplinary team leadership; prototype assembly, integration, verification, and testing.
• Supplier knowledge, product development through industrialization, serial production, or after-sales support is advantageous.
• Engineering project planning, technical risk and resource planning, and defence, land systems, armoured vehicle, or weapon-systems industry experience are advantageous.
