Role purpose

Early-career individual contributor role providing first-line monitoring and triage across security tools and Service Desk tickets.

Works under established playbooks and escalation procedures, with technical direction from the Cyber Team Lead and senior analysts.

Provides foundational support while developing toward more senior cybersecurity work, including exposure to vulnerability management, incident response, and GRC.

Monitoring and vulnerability support

  • Monitor security tools and alerts, including CrowdStrike, SIEM platforms, Tenable Nessus, and Qualys, for anomalies and threats.
  • Triage and classify alerts, escalate suspected incidents, and document outcomes.
  • Support vulnerability scans, reporting, remediation tracking, and patch validation with the ITS team.

Incident response and compliance

  • Assist with data gathering, log review, initial containment, and post-incident reporting under senior direction.
  • Follow incident-response playbooks and procedures.
  • Collect evidence for ISO 27001, UK Cyber Essentials, and EU CRA activities; assist with policies and vendor compliance tracking.

Service delivery and collaboration

  • Provide first-line support for security-related Service Desk tickets and escalate complex cases.
  • Maintain ticket records, follow up on open items, and support user awareness and phishing-report triage.
  • Communicate with organizational stakeholders and take direction from senior cyber team members.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or equivalent coursework/certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 0–3 years of experience in IT, security operations, or a related technical role.
  • Basic understanding of networking, firewalls, and security fundamentals.

Additional qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and willingness to follow procedures and escalate uncertainty.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts or on-call coverage if required; ability to attain and maintain required security clearance.
  • Monitoring-tool exposure and ticketing or ITIL-process familiarity are assets.
  • CompTIA Security+ or Network+, PowerShell or Python scripting, and familiarity with CrowdStrike, Vanta, NIST, or ISO 27001 are desirable or a plus.
