Intellectual Property Lawyer

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Advise clients on intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs, and trade secrets.
• Conduct trademark availability searches and provide legal opinions on registrability and infringement risks.
• Prepare, file, and prosecute trademark, copyright, industrial design, and patent applications before the relevant authorities.
• Manage domestic and international IP portfolios, including renewals, assignments, recordals, and licensing.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, including:
• Licensing Agreements
• Assignment Agreements

• Technology Transfer Agreements

• Franchise Agreements
• Coexistence Agreements
• Advise clients on IP protection strategies and commercialization of intellectual assets.
• Conduct legal due diligence relating to intellectual property during mergers, acquisitions, and investments.
• Monitor and enforce clients' IP rights through opposition, cancellation, infringement actions, cease-and-desist notices, and settlement negotiations.
• Represent clients before government authorities, regulatory bodies, and courts where applicable.
• Coordinate with foreign associates and patent agents on international trademark and patent filings, prosecution, and portfolio management.
• Stay updated on developments in UAE and international intellectual property laws and regulations.
• Support business development initiatives by preparing legal proposals, client presentations, and articles related to IP law.
• Collaborate with other practice groups on corporate, commercial, technology, media, and innovation-related transactions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.)
• Licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction (preferred).
• LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law is an advantage.
• Professional certification in Intellectual Property or Trademark Practice is desirable.
• Membership in recognized IP organizations is an advantage.

Experience

• 3–7 years of experience in intellectual property law.
• Experience handling trademark registrations and IP prosecution.
• Familiarity with the UAE Ministry of Economy IP systems is highly preferred.
• Experience managing international trademark portfolios is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of UAE and international intellectual property laws.
• Excellent legal drafting and contract negotiation skills.
• Experience in trademark prosecution, enforcement, and litigation support.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
• Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
