About the team and role

OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems and shares field patterns that shape the platform.

The role embeds with customers to map problems, structure delivery, build full-stack solutions, and create measurable value in ambiguous, urgent settings.

Success means owning delivery across workstreams while maintaining quality and pace and helping OpenAI learn through execution.

Workplace and travel

  • The role is based in Abu Dhabi and uses a hybrid model with three office days per week.
  • Relocation assistance is offered; travel of up to 50% is required.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical delivery across multiple deployments from prototype to stable production and build full-stack systems that deliver customer value.
  • Embed with customer teams, understand their needs, and guide adoption of what you build.
  • Scope and sequence work, remove blockers, and balance scope, speed, and quality to protect delivery.
  • Contribute directly to code when needed; codify reusable working patterns into tools, playbooks, or building blocks.
  • Share field feedback with Research and Product on where models succeed and where they can improve.
  • Create clarity and follow through to keep internal and external teams moving.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering or technical deployment experience, including customer-facing work.
  • Experience scoping and delivering complex systems in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
  • Production-grade frontend and backend coding and code review using Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks.
  • Experience building or deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models and understanding their effects on product experience.
  • Clear communication with engineers, product teams, and customer stakeholders.
  • Ability to simplify complexity, make sound decisions under pressure, identify risks early, and adjust without slowing delivery.
