Lead the engineering function at Gist’s Enfield site, taking ownership of the Vehicle Maintenance Unit, fleet and Material Handling Equipment operation.
Work with UK engineering and site leadership to maintain a safe, compliant and reliable operation and shape its longer-term development.
What you’ll do
- Maintain legal, safety and company standards across the VMU, fleet and MHE operation.
- Lead the engineering team and ensure appropriate capability, resources and shift cover.
- Plan fleet servicing and maintenance around operational requirements and peak demand.
- Manage engineering service levels, budgets, financial performance, compliance checks, audits, suppliers and contractors.
- Deliver improvements to safety, service, standards, equipment, facilities and overall site performance.
- Participate in site safety and operational meetings and provide cover for the Vehicle Service Manager when required.
What the employer is looking for
- Strong experience in fleet engineering, vehicle maintenance or a similar engineering environment, including management of a VMU, fleet and MHE.
- Recognised engineering qualification such as City & Guilds, HNC, HND or higher.
- Experience managing engineering budgets and financial performance, fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance standards, suppliers and contractors.
- Experience working in a unionised environment.
- Strong technical judgement, ability to assess risks and develop practical solutions, and confidence leading teams and influencing stakeholders.
Hours and working pattern
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

- The role is based at Gist Limited, Brancroft Way, Enfield, EN3 7QP.
