Relay is a digital banking platform serving small-business owners.

Role and team

The Engineering Manager, Voyager helps shape AI technology foundations and innovation at Relay.

Voyager builds shared AI and insights foundations, enables product teams, and evaluates emerging technology through exploratory work.

The team operates across exploratory prototypes and production infrastructure used by other teams.

What you'll do

  • Own reliability, security, and lifecycle of shared LLM systems from design through deployment and monitoring.
  • Lead R&D and proof-of-concept work and make adoption recommendations.
  • Enable teams with tools, patterns, and guidance for safe, fast AI workflow delivery.
  • Lead planning and delivery of platform and R&D initiatives, maintaining quality, timelines, priorities, and business alignment.
  • Establish engineering processes for sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design reviews.
  • Hire, onboard, coach, and manage performance; develop senior and staff-level engineers.

Who you are

  • You have managed senior-heavy teams, including senior and staff-level engineers.
  • You have hands-on experience building production agentic systems and understand reliability, observability, and safety at scale.
  • You have a strong technical foundation and a record of shipping high-quality products, and can review designs and challenge architecture decisions.
  • You can lead work that shifts between exploration and production and exercise judgment about the right level of engineering rigor.
  • You can evaluate emerging technology, communicate recommendations to leadership, and drive cross-functional impact.
  • You are invested in building engineering teams and developing people.

Technology stack

  • Front end: React, TypeScript, and React Native.
  • Back end and infrastructure: Node.js, TypeScript, Terraform, AWS, DynamoDB, RDS Postgres, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, Elasticsearch, and ECS.
  • Tools: Cursor, Claude, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Jira, and Metabase.

Compensation

  • Annual salary range is CAD 207,000 to CAD 253,000.
  • Typical starting salary is CAD 230,000 for candidates fully ready for the role scope; offers may vary with readiness, impact, or expanded scope.

Interview process

  • The process includes recruiter and engineering video calls, a take-home case study and engineering discussion, and an in-person leadership interview.
  • Employment offers are conditional on a successful background check and employment verification.
