Role and team

Relay is hiring an Engineering Manager, Voyager, to shape how AI supports the company’s next stage of growth.

Voyager builds technology foundations for AI and insights, partners with product teams, and evaluates emerging technologies through exploratory work.

The team’s work ranges from production infrastructure used by other teams to early prototypes.

What you’ll do

  • Own the reliability, security, and lifecycle of shared LLM systems from design through deployment and monitoring.
  • Lead R&D initiatives and proof-of-concept work, recommending whether and how emerging technologies should be adopted.
  • Enable teams across Relay with tools, patterns, and guidance for shipping AI workflows safely and quickly.
  • Lead planning and delivery of platform and R&D initiatives, and establish priorities, engineering processes, and quality standards.
  • Hire, onboard, coach, and manage a senior-heavy engineering team; support growth paths for senior and staff engineers.

Who you are

  • You have managed senior-heavy engineering teams, including senior and staff-level engineers.
  • You have hands-on experience building production agentic systems that are reliable, observable, and safe at scale.
  • You have a strong technical foundation and experience shipping high-quality products, reviewing designs, and challenging architecture decisions.
  • You can lead a team working across prototypes and production systems and exercise sound judgment about emerging technology.
  • You can communicate technology recommendations to leadership and work effectively across functions.

Technology stack

  • Front end: React, TypeScript, and React Native.
  • Back end: Node.js, TypeScript, Terraform, and AWS services including DynamoDB, RDS Postgres, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, ElasticSearch, and ECS.
  • Tools include Cursor, Claude, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Jira, and Metabase.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range is CAD $207,000 to $253,000.
  • The typical starting salary for candidates fully ready for the role’s scope is CAD $230,000; offers may vary based on readiness, impact, or expanded scope.

Interview process

The process includes a 45-minute video call with Talent, a 60-minute video call with Engineering leaders, a take-home case study and Engineering team interview, and a 45-minute in-person Leadership interview.
