Role Overview

Drilling Rig Operation

• Operate rotary and core drilling rigs to achieve target depths and sample recovery rates defined by the geological plan.
• Monitor torque, pressure, and rotation speed to optimize performance and prevent equipment failure.

Equipment Maintenance

• Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of drilling rigs, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance including lubrication, filter changes, and component replacements.

Safety Compliance

• Participate in daily toolbox talks and risk assessments before commencing drilling activities.
• Implement lockout/tagout procedures during equipment maintenance to protect personnel.

Sample Management

• Collect core and chip samples at specified intervals to ensure representative geological data.
• Label and seal samples securely and maintain chain of custody until transfer to the assay laboratory.

Data Recording

• Record daily drilling data including depth, lithology, and operational incidents in the digital logging system.
• Ensure logs are accurate and submitted to the Drilling Supervisor at the end of each shift.

Environmental Stewardship

• Manage drilling fluids and cuttings in accordance with environmental regulations and site-specific waste management plans.
• Ensure unauthorized discharge of materials does not occur during operations.

Site Mobilization

• Assist with setup and breakdown of drilling rigs at new exploration sites.
• Account for and correctly store tools and spare parts during mobilization.

Team Coordination

• Collaborate with geologists and maintenance personnel during drilling operations.

Requirements

• Ability to operate rotary and core drilling rigs to specified target depths and sample recovery rates.
• Ability to monitor torque, pressure, and rotation speed to optimize drilling performance and prevent equipment failure.
• Ability to perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections and preventive maintenance on rigs, pumps, and auxiliary equipment.
• Knowledge of toolbox talks, risk assessments, and lockout/tagout procedures for drilling operations.
• Ability to collect, label, seal, and transfer core and chip samples while maintaining chain of custody.
• Ability to record depth, lithology, and operational incidents accurately in a digital logging system.
• Knowledge of drilling-fluid and cutting disposal requirements under environmental regulations and site waste plans.
