Job purpose
Ensure smooth, continuous, safe, and efficient operation of gas and steam turbines, associated plant equipment, and utility services in the assigned area.
Work in the control room or field under instructions from the shift supervisor or main control room.
Key accountabilities
- Operate assigned gas and steam turbines, waste heat boilers, auxiliaries, plant equipment, and essential services safely and efficiently.
- Carry out safe turbine and system startups and shutdowns from the control room when assigned; operate Potline rectifier transformers.
- Communicate with customers and handle day-to-day issues under the system controller's supervision.
- Check in-service and standby equipment, monitor instrument readings, and ensure parameters remain within satisfactory limits.
- Assist with plant startups, shutdowns, and equipment isolation for maintenance.
- Record routine readings, report deviations and abnormalities, and follow instructions and emergency procedures.
- Use safe practices; assist with routine testing and recommissioning after outages; keep standby equipment ready for emergencies.
- Maintain housekeeping and provide on-the-job training to subordinates when needed.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
- Three years' experience in the operations department of a modern power station.
- Operator must be competent in the relevant equipment areas for Power Plant 1 or 2, including specified gas and steam turbines, waste heat boilers, pumps, and associated services.
- Power Plant 1A coverage includes specified gas turbines and boilers, a steam turbine and demineralization plant, gas skids, rectifier transformers, compressed air, seawater pumps, and chlorination equipment.
