Container Dispatcher

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Coordinate timely container collection and delivery and plan routes around port procedures, carrier requirements, road regulations, and priorities.
• Communicate with drivers, port staff, warehouse teams, customers, and other relevant parties to keep movements on schedule.
• Track container locations and update dispatch systems accurately.
• Adjust routes or schedules to reduce delays, improve efficiency, and control operating expenses.
• Resolve delays, driver concerns, equipment shortages, and last-minute delivery changes.
• Monitor demurrage, detention, vehicle downtime, and other transport charges to avoid unnecessary costs.
• Prepare dispatch reports, operational summaries, delivery updates, and required records.
• Coordinate with logistics and operations teams to improve service and information sharing.
• Maintain shipment documents, delivery confirmations, and container-status records.
• Identify recurring challenges and suggest improvements to dispatch planning and reliability.

Experience and knowledge

• Practical experience in logistics, freight forwarding, container dispatch, drayage operations, or related transportation work.
• Understanding of port operations, container handling, trucking activities, and transportation regulations.
• Experience with dispatch management software, transportation systems, or similar operational tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for records and reporting.
