Psychiatrist & Medical Psychotherapist

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations, diagnostic interviews, and risk assessments.
• Diagnose and manage a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, trauma-related conditions, and substance use disorders.
• Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacotherapy and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
• Provide individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy where appropriate.
• Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications while ensuring safe and effective treatment outcomes.
• Manage psychiatric emergencies, including suicide risk assessments and crisis intervention.
• Collaborate closely with psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, primary care physicians, and other specialists to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Educate patients and families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, medication adherence, and relapse prevention.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.
• Supervise junior medical staff and contribute to teaching and mentoring where applicable.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and international clinical guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Completion of an accredited residency or postgraduate training in Psychiatry.
• Board Certification or equivalent Specialist/Consultant qualification in Psychiatry.
• Formal training and experience in Medical Psychotherapy or Psychotherapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, Family Therapy, or other evidence-based approaches.
• Minimum of
• 3–5 years
• of post-specialization experience for Specialist level or
• 8–10 years
• for Consultant level.
• Strong expertise in psychiatric diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and psychotherapy.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multicultural healthcare environment.
• Fluency in English is required; Arabic language skills are an advantage.

Preferred Skills

• Expertise in adult, child and adolescent, geriatric, or addiction psychiatry.
• Experience working in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency psychiatric settings.
• Strong commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, and continuous professional development.
• Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare quality standards.
