Commodity Buyer in the Procurement department, based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The role manages commodity coverage, supplier-contract execution, sourcing and shipment plans, and reliable vendor deliveries while seeking strong market value.
Role responsibilities
- Optimize sourcing and shipment plans for long-term commodity coverage and favorable market positions.
- Lead sourcing and shipping for milling wheat, hard wheat, semi-hard wheat, feed corn, feed barley, soybean meal, wheat bran, DDGS, and other listed commodities.
- Execute tenders and direct spot purchases, manage shipments, and avoid supply gaps or quality disputes.
- Finalize supplier contracts on time; monitor freight pricing, market movements, savings, and procurement needs; maintain reporting.
- Manage freight fixtures, ship nominations, and demurrage against shipping and arrival plans.
- Coordinate Letters of Credit or CAD and supplier payments with Finance under contract terms.
- Work with suppliers, vendors, brokers, surveyors, vessel agents, and shipping agencies.
- Track competitor sourcing and regional cargo movements and share market insights.
- Support R&D and Commercial teams on alternative raw materials and cost savings; develop sorghum and other potential commodities.
Education and experience
- Bachelor's, diploma, or master's degree in a relevant field.
- At least 7 years of procurement or commodity-buying experience, with advanced professional and operational training.
- Experience in grain commodities, procurement, and freight operations.
- Experience with foreign import/export regulations and procedures.
- GAFTA courses.
Technical skills
- Strong knowledge of procurement tools and freight fixtures; negotiation and contract-management skills.
- Tender preparation and supply-offer analysis; thorough knowledge of grain commodities.
- Understanding of grain transportation and storage requirements, stowage plans, charter parties, and shipment insurance.
