Commissioning Lead – Energy Storage Systems

Key responsibilities
- Lead on-site commissioning of utility-scale battery energy storage projects from pre-commissioning through testing, start-up, and handover.
- Coordinate integration of battery systems, PCS/inverters, BMS, EMS, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, SCADA, and related equipment.
- Develop commissioning plans, procedures, test protocols, and checklists; verify performance against specifications and contract requirements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during installation, energization, testing, and start-up with engineering teams and suppliers.
- Coordinate electrical testing, protection verification, grid synchronization, and performance testing with utilities, EPC contractors, and stakeholders.
- Manage daily site commissioning and coordinate construction, electrical, controls, safety, and quality teams.
- Ensure HSE, electrical safety, quality, and project commissioning requirements are met.
- Track progress and schedule risks, maintain technical documentation, and report to project management.
- Prepare reports, test records, punch lists, and handover documents; support client training and final acceptance.
Qualifications and requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Automation, or a related discipline.
- At least five years of experience in electrical commissioning, power systems, renewable energy, or energy storage projects.
- Utility-scale BESS on-site commissioning and start-up experience is highly preferred.
- Understand BESS architecture and integration of battery systems, PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, protection systems, and grid equipment.
- Hands-on electrical testing, system integration, fault diagnosis, commissioning procedures, and technical documentation experience.
- Familiarity with grid connection requirements, electrical safety standards, and commissioning practices for utility-scale power projects.
- Experience coordinating EPC contractors, suppliers, engineering teams, clients, and utility representatives.
- Strong problem-solving, site leadership, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
- English proficiency is required; Arabic is an advantage.
- Willingness to work on project sites across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as required.
